A new 4-story mixed use building of approximately 11,800 square feet over partial basement. The project includes the demolition of the existing 2-story building. Located on Kearny Street in San Francisco, this building will serve as the Buddhist Universal Church Resource Center for the teaching and study of Buddhism. The project includes classrooms, meeting spaces and warming kitchen; “A Communal” 3BR apartment used as housing for senior/elderly Church members, this space includes an attached exterior Zen garden. Also included is ground floor commercial space. An enclosed pedestrian bridge to connect this property, over an easement, to the adjacent building on Kearny St. and through that property to the Buddhist Universal Church on 720 Washington St. As this is a high density urban infill project, it poses many challenges, such as shoring and underpinning of adjacent structure, many decades old properties as well as bringing upgraded utilities across a major San Francisco artery.
